Champion’s Coaching, Inc. and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Make a Splash!

On June 8th, 2024 two influential organizations—Champion’s Coaching, Inc. and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.—joined forces to champion a vital cause: water safety. Our collaborative efforts aimed to increase swim participation and reduce drowning rates within the community.

A Shared Mission

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. national program, “Swim 1922” encourages more people to participate in swimming and to raise awareness about water safety practices.

Champion’s Coaching, Inc. shares this mission with the added focus of bringing awareness to swimming as a competitive sport in the BIPOC community.

The Collaborative Event

On that day, our organizations came together to create ripples of change. Participants gathered at a local pool venue, eager to learn and engage. Here are the highlights:

  1. Educational Sessions: Celeste Bloomfield, Champion’s Coaching Board Vice-President, flanked by her two children—both competitive swimmers within Champion’s Coaching, Inc.— assisted in leading informative sessions. Attendees received practical tips on water safety, both in and out of the water. From proper swimming techniques to recognizing potential hazards, the discussions were enlightening.
  2. Community Engagement: The event wasn’t just about disseminating information; it was about building a community. Attendees got to share in each other’s experiences surrounding water and how to properly and safely interact with it.
  3. Empowering BIPOC Swimmers: Both organizations emphasized their commitment to empowering Black and Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) swimmers. By providing mentorship, resources, and encouragement, they aim to create a more diverse and inclusive swimming landscape.

Looking Ahead

The collaboration between Champion’s Coaching, Inc. and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. left an indelible mark. The seeds of awareness planted during this event will continue to grow, ensuring that more individuals embrace the water with confidence and safety. We are grateful for the time we got to spend together and hope to be able to do this again soon!

Water safety isn’t just about strokes and techniques; it’s about saving lives.
