Champion’s Coaching Swim Team Becomes Official USA Swimming Team: Introducing “The Firebirds”
Raleigh, NC – September 16, 2024 – Champion’s Coaching Swim Team is proud to announce that it has been awarded official USA Swimming team status and our competitive swimming team will now be known as “The Firebirds.” The name “The Firebirds” symbolizes the team’s rise from the ashes of another team, embodying resilience and renewal.
Head Coach Zion Hall, who swam competitively year-round for 10 years, leads the team. Reflecting on the journey, Coach Zion shared, “We started swimming on August 20, 2023, and a little over a year later, we became a competitive swim team.”
In just one year, The Firebirds have achieved remarkable milestones. “We have taken an athlete to Future’s Championships and made the news with our Juneteenth water safety event. We also volunteered at the Nate McMillian Foundation, The Dream Academy, and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc’s Swim 1922 water safety program,” says Coach Zion.
Board President Deidra Hall acknowledges the challenges faced along the way. “It has been a challenging year, and while there have been many obstacles, we have persevered to get to this point,” she says. Deidra also emphasizes the inclusivity of the sport, stating, “Not every child is meant to play with a ball, and there is a place for them in the sport of swimming.”
The Firebirds extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported them. “We would like to thank the City of Raleigh for working with us on pool space, the parents who have stuck with us throughout the year, and welcome all new swimmers and parents,” says Coach Zion.
